Q&A

Q : How is it different from other wedges for bunkers?

A : The shape of the sole. The bounce angle itself is only 12.5°, which is not particularly large, but its location and shape is the main point with Bounce Magic™.  The bounce throws up an explosion of sand and works to allow the sole to glide even for approach shots.

Bounce is defined as the angle (in degrees) between the ground and the club's sole plane.  At impact in soft turf or sand, a higher bounce angle increase the upward resisting force on the sole of the club to prevent excess digging.  For firm turf and sand, lower bounce angles improve contact by reducing this resisting force, allowing the leading edge to easily slide underneath the ball.

Q : How is it different from wide-soled bunker wedges?

A : Wide-soled sand wedges are characterized by the wide sole allowing a clean swing without the head digging deeply into the sand.  If the club comes in one or two ball lengths in front of the ball, then these wedges just take a thin layer of sand and get the ball out of the bunker. However, if the club strikes the ground too far from the ball, then the face is strongly resisted by the sand due to the lack of a bounce, and so the ball doesn’t fly far.  With the Bounce Magic™, there is no need to think about taking a thin layer of sand, and being free from having to think about that makes it less likely that you will make mistakes like digging in or topping golf shot.

The club also pops the ball up high, which makes it easier to handle when close position to the pin.

Q : Which is easier to use, a wide-soled sand wedge or the Bounce Magic™?

A : The both of them make your shot easier. However, the Bounce Magic™ was developed in keeping with the original sand wedge capability as closely as possible. Generating sand explosion by the bounce, is the most important factor for the bunker shot. To play with the Bounce Magic™ properly, you still need to follow the basic method which dropping your club head behind the ball. But the Bounce Magic™ enable to generate a tremendous sand explosion by our CRS bounce technology even if you hit too far from the ball (fat shot), so your sand play skill will improve by using it continuously. You won’t be able to stop scooping the ball out of the sand by using a wide-soled sand wedge for sure.

Q : Why is it that the Bounce Magic™ does not require an open stance or an open face angle?

A : The bounce on an ordinary club doesn’t function well unless the face angle is opened. This means you have to open the face to be able to strike the sand with the bounce, and thus your stance has to be open as well. However, most amateur golfers (and even some advanced players) are not able to properly swing while opening the angle enough to use the bounce well. It is actually the open stance and open face angle that makes bunkers so difficult for amateur golfers.  With the Bounce Magic™, you are already in the same set up as when you hold an ordinary wedge with an open face angle (such that the bounce can be used), even when addressing the ball directly as normal, so it allows you to make bunker shots using the bounce as is.

Q : Won’t the club head bounce on an approach shot if the bounce angle is too high?

A : First of all, when playing on grass, there is no need to worry about bouncing. On the contrary, you will likely feel the sole gliding through the grass. This is the main reason why approach shots become remarkably easier.

Q : The Bounce Magic™ is good for bunker shots and approach shots. Does it have any demerits?

A : The Bounce Magic™ makes effective use of the bounce, so when used in conditions in which the bounce is unnecessary, such as in hard sand bunkers with little sand or on bare ground void of grass, the club conversely becomes disadvantageous. But the same thing also occurs to other sand wedges. In situations like these, you should typically use an approach wedge or a pitching wedge without much loft. The ground beneath the mats at driving ranges is often solid concrete, so we do not recommend hitting the ball at driving ranges as well. However, in ordinary bunkers or on grass, the Bounce Magic™ helps prevent mistakes like “wormburners” as the sole glides over the ground even if you strike the ground slightly behind the ball, so it’s effective and also imparts a good spin.

Q : When setting up on a hard surface ground, does it cause a topped shot due to the leading edge rising?

A : Even on hard ground, as long as there is grass, there is no need to worry. On the contrary, the closer to the ground that a club’s leading edge is positioned (low bounce clubs), more likely the head gets stuck deep into the ground when striking the ground before hitting the ball.

Q : The golf club technology have evolved, so should the current mainstream wedges be best?

A : That may be true for highly skilled professional golfers. However, mainstream wedges are no longer easy clubs for average golfers to use. We would also like to point out the fact that top-level PGA professionals in the US typically carry three or more wedges. It may be the end of the single, all-purpose wedge that gets used for everything.

Q : Is this club for an average players?

A : The Bounce Magic™ was developed to make bunker shots as easy as possible, and so it goes without saying that this makes it particularly easy for the average player to use as well. However, professional women players and professional players in the PGA Tour, etc. also actually highly praise it with comments like, “I can make bunker shots go where I want,” “It’s a powerful weapon to have in the deep rough,” “It’s extremely easy to use, so it’s easy to control distance and direction,” “I like the spin performance on approach shots,” etc. In other words, the club is easy to use well for all levels of players. In addition, the Bounce Magic™ is also often praised for the beauty of its design.
